Apple slices recalled over possible health risk

recalled apples2The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that Crunch PakĀ® of Cashmere, Washington is voluntarily recalling 5,471 cases of Crunch PakĀ® Apple Slices because of possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

The recall includes six products in varying sized packs, with a “best if used by” date of 11/14/13, or 11/18/13. The products have been distributed nationwide through retailers and regional distribution centres.

The potential contamination was identified when a single 14 oz. pack of Crunch Pak brand Tart Apple Slices, sampled by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. No related cases of illness have been reported to date.
