Canned tuna recalled due to possible health risk

| March 18, 2016

tunarecallThe US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that Bumble Bee Foods LLC is voluntarily recalling three specific UPC codes of canned Chunk Light tuna because of possible under-processing that occurred at a co-packing facility and which could lead to microbial contamination and compromise product safety.

The recall covers 31,579 cases of canned tuna produced in February 2016 and distributed nationally. The affected products are single 5-oz cans of Bumble Bee brand Chunk Light Tuna in Water and in Oil and 4 packs of 5-oz Chunk Light Tuna in Water, all marked with can codes that start with a “T” and with various “best by” dates.

There have been no reports of related cases of illness to date. Consumers are being advised to discard the recalled products and the company is working with the co-packer and the FDA to ensure that they are quickly removed from sale.
