chilli powderThe US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that Ahning Corporation of Los Angeles is voluntarily recalling Caravelle brand Chilli Powder because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

The recalled chilli powder was packed in 8-ounce plastic tubs labelled “Caravelle CHILI POWDER HOT” and marked with the lot codes 560916, or 570115. The product was imported from Thailand and distributed nationwide through retail stores.

The problem was identified by routine sampling and testing conducted by the State of Maryland. Only lot code 560916 was affected by the contamination, but the company is recalling the second lot as a precaution. No related cases of illness have been reported to date.
