Chocolate wafers recalled over Salmonella threat

| August 24, 2015

tescowaferFour different chocolate wafer products on sale in UK supermarkets were recalled last week because of possible contamination with Salmonella bacteria.

On 19 August Tesco announced a precautionary recall of its own label Free-From 5 Belgium Chocolate Wafers due to fears of Salmonella contamination.

On 21 August three further products were recalled as a precaution for the same reason. These were:

Atkins Endulge Chocolate Break Wafers, made by Atkins International BV and sold only through Tesco Stores

Bakers Delight ‘free from’ Enjoy Gluten-Free Wafer Fingers, sold through Waitrose stores

Valeo Foods Kelkin brand Milk Chocolate Break Wafers ‘free from’ Gluten, sold exclusively through Sainsbury’s stores.

As yet there is no further information as to whether the presence of Salmonella in any of these products has been confirmed or the likely origin of any contamination present. More information on all three recalls can be found on the Food Standards Agency website here.
