Enchiladas recalled over Salmonella risk

enchiladasThe US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that Overhill Farms, Inc. of Vernon, California, is voluntarily recalling frozen Open Nature Chile Cheese Enchiladas that may be contaminated with Salmonella.

The recalled product is a frozen prepared dinner packaged in a 9-oz. box and marked with a lot code 141006 and a ‘Best by’ date of AUG-06-15. It was sold through various Safeway-owned stores nationwide from October 9 to December 1 2014.

The recall was initiated when the supplier of organic cilantro (coriander) used in the product informed Overhill Farms that routine testing had indicated the possibility of Salmonella contamination in the herb. No related cases of illness have been reported to date.
