FDA tool helps prevent deliberate food contamination

| May 24, 2013

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has released a new software tool designed to help food manufacturers defend the food supply chain against intentional acts of contamination.

The Food Defense Plan Builder can be used by food businesses – from primary production and manufacturing through to retail and logistics – to develop their own plans to minimise the risk of deliberate food contamination at their facilities.

The software takes food business operators through a series of questions about the facility, products and processes to develop a specific plan for the business, which includes vulnerability assessment, mitigation strategies and an action plan.
