Fresh curd products recalled over Listeria risk

recalledcurdThe US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that Global Garlic Inc., of Miami is recalling two De Mi Pais fresh curd products because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The recalled products are Cuajada Fresca and Cuajada Olanchana, both packed in 12oz plastic bags and labelled with the UPC code 896211002380. They are labelled with ‘Best Used by’ dates from 07/01/14 to 12/31/14 and were distributed to distributors and retail outlets in Florida, Louisiana, Tennessee and North Carolina from 1 April to 14 October 2014.

The recall was initiated after product and environmental samples taken from the manufacturing facility revealed that the finished products were contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The FDA is also investigating cases of illness related to the recalled fresh curd. Manufacturing and distribution has been halted pending the results of further investigation.
