The USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced that Palama Holdings LLC, of Kapolei Hawaii, is recalling approximately 24,784 pounds of raw, frozen marinated chicken products because of possible temperature abuse in the distribution chain.
The recall includes all teriyaki chicken products produced at the company’s Kapolei plant with ‘best by’ dates from Sept. 24 2014 to Nov. 6 2014. These products were produced between Sept. 24 2013 and Nov. 6 2013 and distributed to retail outlets on several Hawaiian Islands. All packs bear the establishment number P-11077.
The recall follows the discovery by FSIS personnel of “bloated boxes” of the recalled chicken at a retail location. The distributor had previously noted boxes of product swollen with gases from the bagged chicken, suggesting temperature abuse during storage. There have been no related reports of illness so far.
