Ground black pepper recalled over Salmonella risk

recalled pepper2The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that Gel Spice Company, Inc., of Bayonne, New Jersey, is voluntarily recalling 16,443 cases of Fresh Finds-Ground Black Pepper because of possible Salmonella contamination.

The recalled black pepper is packed in 3.53 oz (100g) plastic jars with ‘Best By’ dates of 6/30/17, 7/01/17, 7/02/17, 7/22/17 and 7/23/17 and the UPC code 4 11010 98290 1. The product was distributed exclusively through Big Lots Stores, Inc. nationwide, apart from Alaska and Hawaii.

FDA sampling and testing revealed the contamination, but there have been no reported cases of illness related to the recalled batches of black pepper to date. More information about the recall can be found here.
