Kraft Foods recalls processed cheese over low preservative levels

| June 24, 2014

Velveeta-packageKraft Food Group has issued a voluntary recall in the USA relating to 260 cases of Velveeta Original Pasteurized Recipe Cheese product because of low levels of sorbic acid preservative that could potentially allow premature spoilage or lead to foodborne illness.

The recall includes one batch of the product manufactured on a single line during a few hours of production. This batch was packed in 32-ounce packs with the date/time code 17 DEC 2014 10:54 – 14:35 only, shipped to three Walmart distribution centres and then redistributed to stores in up to 12 Midwest states.

Kraft Foods identified the problem during a review of finished product samples and issued the recall as a precaution. It is reportedly taking action to ensure that there is no recurrence. There are no reports of related cases of illness.
