Malabar pepper recalled over Salmonella risk

malabar pepperThe US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that Olde Thompson Inc. of Oxnard, California is recalling 5,153 cases of Kirkland Signature Coarse Ground Malabar Pepper, because of possible contamination with Salmonella.

The recalled pepper is packed in 12.7 OZ plastic jars with a ‘best before’ date of 03/2017 and lot numbers OT 065099, OT 065169, OT 065254-065256 and OT 065284. The product was sold only through Costco Wholesale Club outlets nationwide from 4 April to 4 June 2014.

The contamination was discovered during routine FDA sampling and consumers have been advised to dispose of the pepper and its container and not consume it.
