Russian Salmonella outbreak linked to kebabs

| April 3, 2014 to media reports of a statement by Russian consumer rights watchdog Rosporebnadzor, at least 67 people in the Russian city of Kaliningrad are suffering from suspected Salmonella infection after consuming kebabs purchased from a local food vendor.

Three of those affected are reported to have been placed in intensive care and Salmonella has been isolated from 36 of the known cases. The outbreak has been traced back to a single food outlet and tests have shown food safety violations, high microbial counts and the presence of E. coli indicator bacteria in food products.
