Salmonella outbreak linked to shellfish

| October 2, 2013

ecoliThe UK Food Standards Agency and Public Health England are investigating an outbreak of Salmonella Goldcoast infection that is known to have affected at least 18 people to date.

The investigation has identified possible links with the consumption of whelks bought from independent shops, market stalls and mobile seafood vans in the East Anglia region. A local seafood supplier, Lynn Shellfish Ltd of King’s Lynn, has recalled all batches of frozen and chilled whelks in response to the investigation.

Consumers are being advised not to eat any chilled or frozen whelks purchased from small independent outlets in East Anglia, but to dispose of them. An Agency statement on the outbreak can be found here.
