recalled sliced fruitThe US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that Oregon Freeze Dry Inc., of Albany, Oregon, has voluntarily recalled 59,780 cases of Kirkland Signature Real Sliced Fruit because of potential contamination with Salmonella.

The recalled fruit was produced exclusively for Costco stores and is sold in a red and white case containing 20 pouches of freeze-dried snack slices marked with ‘best before dates’ of Feb 14 2015 – Mar 11 2015. It was distributed to Costco wholesale stores in 36 US states and in Puerto Rico.

Oregon Freeze Dry determined that the product had the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella and then issued the recall in cooperation with Costco in response. The company reports that no related cases of illness have yet been confirmed.
