US ready-to-eat foods recall expanded

| November 7, 2013

airborne micro picThe US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that Reser’s Fine Foods of Topeka, Kansas, is voluntarily expanding a recall of ready-to-eat salad products to include all those produced between 10 and 25 October 2013, because of possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

The expanded recall covers a long list of products sold under a variety of brand names in addition to those already recalled on 22 and 26 October. All the recalled products were distributed nationwide and in Canada to retailers and food service establishments and carry a plant identifier code of 20.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency discovered the problem through routine microbiological testing and further investigation by the FDA has determined that cross contamination of products from food contact surfaces could have occurred. No related cases of illness have been reported to date.
