| May 13, 2014

YoBaby yoghurtThe US Food and Drink Administration (FDA) has announced that organic yoghurt manufacturer Stonyfield is extending a voluntary recall of YoBaby Peach/Pear yoghurt cup 4-oz. six-packs because of possible contamination with the coliform bacterium Klebsiella pneumoniae.

The initial recall referred to 188 six-packs with the date code June 05 2014 distributed to Target and Walmart stores in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions. This has now been extended to include an additional 1,344 six-packs distributed to 271 stores, mostly Safeway and Fred Meyer, in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Alaska and Northern California.

The problem was detected by the company’s own internal testing programme and the FDA statement warns that, While Klebsiella pneumoniae is not generally considered to be a foodborne pathogen, it can occasionally cause gastroenteritis and other symptoms in certain individuals.
